As a child Nicolas Vadot could
not pronounce his name properly, saying /x-tad-bigger>
Kiko/x-tad-bigger>
instead of /x-tad-bigger>Nicolas/x-tad-bigger>.
Indeed his family still sometimes calls him Kiko today. Does
this make us look a little differently at his mascot?
Kiko only appears in /x-tad-bigger>Le
Vif/L'Express/x-tad-bigger> cartoons,
never in any of the other publications Nicolas Vadot
illustrates.
Over the years this little green cat has become somewhat of
a mascot for
/x-tad-bigger>Le Vif/x-tad-bigger>, and
the magazine sometimes uses
him in logos for specific themes such as elections. Kiko can
be seen in almost every illustration for /x-tad-bigger>
Le Vif/L’Express/x-tad-bigger>.
He never takes part in the action and is generally silent.
In fact he is usually drawn in right at the end.
He also appears in the top right-hand corner of /x-tad-bigger>
La Semaine de Vadot/x-tad-bigger>,
where he has a different role - he allows
his illustrator to communicate directly with certain readers,
sometimes he even sends them a personal message,
particularly since Nicolas has been living on the other side
of the world. Kiko often reveals the current state
of his creator’s heart and mind... And why is he green? Who
knows...
